2009
Meeting
Tuesday, January 6, 7:00 p.m. Cortez Cultural Center February Meeting On
February 3rd Fred Blackburn will give a presentation entitled,
"Inscription House: The Spanish Myth: 1661 or 1861?" Two years of
research and documentation of historic inscriptions at Inscription
House in
northeastern Arizona has culminated in a research paper describing the
expeditionary history of visitation within Inscription House and
surrounding
canyons. A three year project in cooperation with Jefferson County Open
School
along with photographers John Cappis and Robert Heyl was conducted
under dual
permits from the Navajo Cultural Preservation Office and the National
Park
Service. Miners, Mormon migration, traders, and archaeologists along
with
Paiute and Navajo settlement make the story intriguing. Recapture Wash
